The tradition of opening gunshots in the air as a sign of celebration has been going on in Pakistan since time immemorial, but those resorting to the expression of joy seem incognizant to the repercussions their trigger leaves.
DIG South Mr. Azad Khan, CPLC team and member of civil society organised Public awareness campaign to eliminate arieall firing from the society on new year celebrations at Do Talwar Clifton on Saturday evening.
People belonging to different walks of life, including women and children, participated in public awareness campaign on Saturday. They were holding placards inscribed with slogans against aerial firing and doing their bit to create awareness about the hazards of aerial firing to celebrate joyous occasions.
Team CPLC stressed the need for mass media campaigns using radio, newspapers and television to discourage the lethal practice also it emphasized people need to be sensitized about the consequences of areal firing to celebrate any occasion.
